Abstract

Aathichudi is one of the greatest literary works in Tamil literature. After the era of Avvaiyar, Mahakavi Barathiyar wrote his ‘Puthiya Aathichudi’ under new perspectives and vision in Tamilakam. Following Mahakavi Barathiyar, Barathidasan also penned another Aathichudi literature and named it ‘Barathidasan Aathichudi which was published in the year 1947. It is known that 8 main elements were discussed in both Aathicudi literature. Hence, this comparative study aims to discuss the differences and similarities based on 4 out of 8 elements in both Aathicudi literature, which are the Art of Speaking, Arts, Unity, and the Art of Thinking. Qualitative research method were used in this study. Barathiyar’s ‘Puthiya Aathichudi’ and Barathidasan’s ‘Barathidasan Aathichudi’ have been used as research subjects for this comparative study.
